Valentine's Day

1/24/2018

Most of us think of Valentine’s Day as a holiday for showing love, but its history is much more varied, with several stories of martyrdom associated with it in the Christian tradition. The feast day evolved in some areas to celebrating the beginning of spring. In the Republic of Slovenia, tradition holds that plants and flowers begin to grow on this day. Even if this isn’t why we choose to send flowers on Valentine’s Day, the blooms are still a great reminder that spring will soon be here!

V-8 Valentine's 18 Red Roses

$135.50
18 red roses, eucalyptus, baby's breath
Colors: red, pink, hot pink, yellow, orange, high and magic (yellow with red tip), sweetness (white with red tip)

Creating a Beautiful Thanksgiving Table with Paper Goods and a Fresh Flower Centerpiece

11/21/2017

It’s almost time for Thanksgiving! Getting together with family and friends is so special, enjoying good food and time with those we love.

If you’re like me, your tradition is to bring out the good china for your holiday guests. Those plates and glasses that we only use a few times a year, but we do it because that’s the way our parents did it or we feel they’re necessary to create atmosphere on these occasions. But who wants to spend extra time in the kitchen cleaning up? Or maybe you don’t have enough china for all the guests around your table. You can solve both of those issues by making a beautiful table setting using paper goods! It can be just as festive and inviting with a lot less work.

I started the place setting with a charger, a shiny gold one that coordinates with the rim of gold on the Thanksgiving themed paper plates, but it also adds elegance to the table. The paper dinner plate is placed on top of the charger, a matching but smaller plate which could be used for desert or salad sits above and to the left. I found these paper plates and matching napkins at Hobby Lobby.
Picture
Across from the smaller plates are two cups, both of these are also disposable for easy clean up. Having two different ones, one of mine is paper and the other is plastic, looks nice and gives your guests a place for wine or punch, and the other for water or another beverage of their choice. I’m using plastic silverware, I chose orange to coordinate with the colors of my table, and placing these on top of the matching paper napkins give them a little extra flair. For a final interesting and unique touch, place a muffin liner to the side of each plate and fill these with nuts or mints before your guests arrive.

The base of my table setting is a cloth tablecloth, it’s a very basic plain colored cloth, but I gave it a little extra pizazz by sprinkling confetti around. I used confetti with shiny acorns, leaves and pumpkins, all in fall-themed colors and the gold colors coordinate wonderfully with the gold chargers, gold cups and gold rimmed plates.
Picture
The centerpiece is an important addition to your table to bring it all together. I started creating my centerpiece with a square napkin that has fall leaves decorating the edges. On top of this is a cornucopia of live flowers also in the rich gold, orange, red and green colors of fall. As a florist I think fresh flowers are a must on your table! Make sure your arrangement is low so your guests can easily converse with one another without having to lean around your centerpiece. I also added a rustic wood sign of the word “Blessed” to really help tie it all together and reiterate the spirit of the Thanksgiving holiday.

I hope this gives you some great ideas for putting together your table! You too can make something beautiful with paper goods and reduce the time needed to clean up after the meal. We’d love to have you share photos of your table on our Facebook page and from all of us at Ootsie’s, have a very blessed and happy Thanksgiving celebration.

Living the dream

Today I had the honor to spend the day with this amazing man....my daddy. We celebrated his 79th birthday by going to church with him then lunch. My daddy is one of those "gentle giants" that loves his girls more than life itself. Daddy has always taught me to work hard and to love and forgive big. Daddy and mother taught myself and 2 sisters to keep God first, no matter what. Daddy has always been the one that I could call up and say "daddy pray" and I knew he would pray. Growing up he and mother had devotion time and prayer time with us every morning before going to school. It didn't matter if we had friends stay over or not, we still had family devotion time. I am so happy to call him daddy and to have had the opportunity to celebrate his birthday with him today. Happy birthday daddy!!

We attended the 3rd service at his church which is the contemporary and traditional service blended. The church is called "The Bridge" in Mustang, OK. The pastor spoke about dreams and that we should never stop dreaming. It really made me think about the dream I have had for Ootsie's Blossoms, where I started, where it is today, and where it will be going in the future. He encouraged us to have faith in our dream and that during our season of seeing our dream come true sometimes we have to wait. He said "don't pray for wisdom if you aren't going to wait for it." Wow, that was a big one....I am not a good waiter. lol

Then...what voices are we listening to? You know those voices in your head that say "you are going to make it" or "you are going to fail?" We all have them. Sometimes it takes a burning bush for us to hear God's voice (we all know that story). God uses ordinary people in ordinary ways. God does not just want us to sit in the waiting room, He wants us doing in the doing room.

God's dream is extraordinary. Never stop dreaming. Do not let your spirit die when you are in the waiting season. The bible tells us there is a season for everything. Today we can be living the dream God has for us.

They sang a song with an old hymn blended with a contemporary song that says:
This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long. This is my story this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long.

We all have a story...so my question I have for you is....do you have a dream? Do you feel God has placed a call on your life and you have not submitted to that calling? Do you have a dream to have your own business? Do you have a dream to be a foster parent? Do you have a dream to get a degree? What is your dream? I want to encourage you to chase your dreams. Go for it and during your waiting time ask Him for wisdom and keep dreaming.

As always....BLOOM WHERE YOU ARE PLANTED...I BELIEVE IN YOU!!

Christmas Wreath Making Class

11/1/2017

Picture
Wreaths date back to ancient Rome and Greece where circular shapes were made using fresh tree leaves and adorned with small fruits and flowers. To some, the shape represents eternity, with no beginning and no end. No matter your beliefs, the wreath is a festive addition to holiday decorations. Whether you hang it on your door or over your hearth, the pleasing shape and seasonal colors will add a lovely focal point to your home.

We’d love to invite you to create your own wreath with Ootsie’s Bloosoms and Boutique this Saturday, November 4, 2017. From 2-5 pm you can join us and we’ll take you through wreath making step-by-step and give you all the supplies you will need to create one of your very own handmade wreaths. Hang it in your home or give it to a friend or loved one this Christmas!

The class fee is $63.44 and registration is available online through this link. The deadline to sign up is Friday, November 3rd.

We’re so excited to help you create your very own Christmas Wreath!

rest and relaxation

10/29/2017

Do you ever feel you just need to get away from the day to day routine and regroup?  Have a little bit of rest and relaxation? Every fall we try to take a long weekend and enjoy the beauty of the change of season. That is exactly what we did this past weekend. Our travels took us to Broken Bow, OK where we took the Talimena Scenic Drive in southeastern Oklahoma spanning a 54 mile stretch to Mena, Arkansas.

The foliage was just beginning to change on Oklahoma State Highway 1.

From yellows, to reds, to greens and grey, the scenery was beautiful. It was hard for me to believe I was still in Oklahoma.
Picture
When we arrived at Mena, Arkansas there was just a few hours left until the antique stores closed so we managed to get in some shopping. I couldn't resist this cute arrangement in the front of one of the stores. I would have loved to bring it home with me, but I couldn't so this will be a must for me to try next year.

When you have friends and a cozy cabin you just can't go wrong. Our cabin was tucked away in the beautiful foliage and driving up to the cabin I began to relax and feel the weight of day to day life lift. It may have only been 3 days away and a large part of the time in the vehicle, but the beauty of God's country was worth it all. Getting away does the soul good, so take some time for yourself. Get away from the hussle and bussle of the day to day life and regroup. You won't be sorry.

As always remember to Bloom where you are planted.

    Ootsie

Hello!! I am a simple person with a passion for flowers and home décor. I am crazy about my God, family and business. I am not fancy with my words or in person. I say it like it is and love to share my passion. I love to talk about the things I am passionate about. My husband of 36+ years is my ROCK!!! His passions are tractors, old engines and lathes. He goes to the tractor shows which gives me a chance to go antiquing and visiting green houses, so it works out very nicely.  I LOVE to learn all I can about flowers and gardening. Now you wouldn't think that were the case if you came to my house because I don't have a large garden, but that is my plan when I retire at 60 (7 years away, happy dance, happy dance). My plan is to play in the dirt  when we are not traveling. So, little by little I am working to make my back yard my "Ootsie Oasis" for when I retire. I hope you enjoy playing with flowers and playing in the dirt with me, because that's what I love to do. I may not know all there is to know about flowers and dirt, but I love researching and figuring it all out. Hey it's dirt, what could possibly go wrong? RIGHT? As I always say. "BLOOM WHERE YOU ARE PLANTED BECAUSE I BELIEVE IN YOU!!"
